How to care for your jewelry

Dedicated to maintaining the Rogers brand, we travel the world in search of fresh fashions, best values, and, of course, high quality jewelry. Here are just a few extra steps we take to provide you beautiful jewelry designs at a beautiful value:

It only takes a little care to keep your jewelry looking its best. We suggest the following tips:

  • Store your jewelry in a clean, dry place.
  • Keep your jewelry separated so it won't get tangled or scratched.
  • Everyday ordinary wear exposes your jewelry to oils, lotions, household chemicals and perspiration that build up and dull its surface, so be sure to keep your jewelry clean and remove it before applying any lotion.
  • Have your jewelry professionally cleaned and checked at least twice a year for loose prongs, worn mountings, and general wear and tear.
  • Always remove any jewelry when doing any kind of rough work.
  • Avoid chlorine bleach, household chemicals and even saltwater.
  • Always apply hairspray, cosmetics and perfume before wearing any jewelry.

Diamonds & Gemstones

  • Try not to touch your diamonds and gemstones; instead, handle them by their edges.
  • Always wipe your diamonds and gemstones with a soft cloth to remove residues such as dirt before placing it back in your jewelry box.
  • As with all jewelry, remove your diamonds and gemstones when doing rough work to avoid damage. Keep in mind that colored gemstones are more fragile and brittle than diamonds.

Gold

  • Clean your gold rings with a solution of warm water and detergent-free soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush or a similar brush.
  • Avoid handling mercury while wearing your gold jewelry, as it will cause the alloys to break down.
  • Keep in mind that some people may be allergic to the alloys in gold. Hence, they may be able to wear yellow gold and not white gold, or vice versa.

Platinum

  • Although platinum is strong and durable, it can still be scratched and dented so be sure to treat it with the same care as you would with your other jewelry.
  • Be sure to have your platinum jewelry professionally polished each year to keep maintain its luster.

Silver

  • Although wearing your silver jewelry is the best way to prevent tarnish from building up, it is important to keep your silver clean. Be sure to clean it with polish made especially for silver jewelry.
  • Remember that silver jewelry can scratch just like any other jewelry so be careful and, of course, keep your silver away from harsh chemicals, ammonia and chlorinated water.
  • Store your silver separately, and wrap in a soft piece or clothe or place in a tarnish-preventive bag. Try not to expose it to air or light during storage as that may cause it to tarnish.

Pearls

Treasures from the sea, no two pearls are alike. Do you know how they're formed? When an irritant is somehow introduced into a mollusk, it releases nacre a substance that covers and creates the pearl. It's the microscopic crystals in nacre that determines the look, color and lush glowing luster of the pearl, making it one of nature's most beautiful creations. With this in mind, be sure to take extra care by keeping them away from other jewelry or anything the may scratch them. Wrapping them in a soft cloth or tissue will protect them.

  • As with silver, pearls are at their optimum when you wear them often. However, normal wear will weaken the threads on which pearls are strung so be sure to have your pearls re-strung once a year.
  • Put on your pearl jewelry after applying cosmetics, hair sprays and perfume. In fact, pearls should be the last thing you put on before you leave and the first thing your take off when you return.
  • Be sure to wipe your pearls with a soft cloth before putting your pearls away to remove any foreign substance and, of course, avoid exposing them to harsh chemicals and rough surfaces.
